Abstract

The European Union is facing challenges posed by both its southern and
eastern neighbourhood. Until recently, it seemed that the Union ought to
focus on the southern neighbours (the fallout of the Arab Spring). However,

the events in Ukraine, especially Euromaidan, the annexation of Crimea by
Russia and the outbreak of the hybrid war (a regular war at present) between
Russia and Ukraine, have shown that the EU cannot disregard these events.
The aim of the present paper is to indicate the significance of the Eastern Partnership
both for the Eastern European states and the Southern Caucasus as
well as the EU itself and offer recommendations for the Eastern Partnership.
