Abstract

The article aims to outline main motives, assumptions and dimensions of
the US foreign policy in the region of Asia and the Pacific. In the author’s
opinion, American turn towards Asia and the Pacific is mainly caused by
economic factors and serves the maintenance of a relatively strong position
of the USA in the region in the face of the growing power of China. In order
to illustrate the character of American involvement in the region of Asia and
the Pacific, the author focuses on three dimensions of the discussed issue:
military, diplomatic and economic ones. He also emphasises the continuity
of the US foreign policy in the region and wonders whether it is doomed to
American-Chinese rivalry.
